There are patents covering the SORDMiner head and the Shield deployment tool. The unique aspects protected are not limited to, but include the methodology of sorting material at the head prior to extraction to the surface and the methodology of protecting the SORDMiner's umbilical cord by deploying an in-situ sheath or the Shield.
